Live Active & Healthy During National Minority Health Month 2019

Each year, during the month of April, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, observes National Minority Health Month (NMHM). The theme for 2019 is “Active & Healthy,” as they strive to promote healthy lifestyles through physical activity. The need for this campaign arises because more than half of minority adults do not meet baseline physical activity guidelines.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Physical activity promotes health and reduces the risk of chronic diseases and other conditions that are often more common and severe among racial and ethnic minority groups.” The “Move Your Way Campaign” sponsored by the CDC is approved by NMHM to help people achieve their physical activity goals in order to lead healthier lives. This easy, interactive online-campaign allows participants to plan activities by themselves, with their kids, with their friends, or their family.

Before beginning any exercise regimen, it is advisable to see your healthcare provider for a complete physical. You may walk-in to any of our convenient Primary Medical Care Center community clinics, or you may schedule an appointment by visiting our website at www.primarymed.com, or call (305)751-1500 for our Miami-Dade clinic, or (954)289-0000 for our Broward clinic.
