October 12-20: Bone & Joint Health National Action Week

The Bone and Joint Health National Action Week is an annual global public health awareness campaign, “focused on disorders including arthritis, back pain, trauma, pediatric conditions, and osteoporosis.” According to the United States Bone and Joint Initiative, quoting the Burden of Musculoskeletal Conditions in the United States, “More than half the American population over the age of 18 – 54 percent- are affected by musculoskeletal (bone and joint) conditions.”

During this week, there are several themes to encourage the public to take steps to maintain healthy bones and joints:

  • Don’t Delay. Connect Today. Encourages early diagnosis of arthritis and connecting people living with arthritis with expert healthcare professionals.
  • Get Spine Active. Managing back and neck pain through movement and exercise.
  • Children Get Arthritis Too! Shines a light on pediatric arthritis and the need for early intervention to prevent permanent damage.
  • Fit to a T. Understanding your T-score which is used to measure your susceptibility to fracture. This is important in fracture prevention, bone health and osteoporosis.
