May 1-7 is National Physical Education and Sport Week: “Health. Moves. Minds”

The organization, Shape America, is the leading sponsor of National Physical Education and Sport Week, which is observed in the first week of May. The purpose is a “call to action to recognize the value and importance of having physical activity and physical education in the lives of kids and adults.” During this week, the central theme is: “Health. Moves. Minds,” which is actually a “service- learning program designed to help teach all children how to cope with stress, bullying, and the societal pressures that can negatively affect their daily lives.”

In the 2018 U.S. Report Card on Physical activity for Children and Youth, it was revealed that American children do not get enough of their daily required exercise. The United States Department of Health and Human Services, recommends that “children and adolescents ages 6 to 17 years do 60 minutes (1 hour) or more of moderate -to-vigorous physical activity daily.”

To kick off this awareness week, will be the 31st Annual Project ACES Day, today May 1, which will be the world’s largest exercise class. Project ACES is an acronym for All Children Exercise Simultaneously. And that is exactly what will take place today starting at 10am across the globe as millions of children in schools, health, fitness, sports, and medical facilities will begin some sort of physical exercise activity from 15 to 45 minutes.
