CDC Adds New COVID-19 Symptoms to its Website

Information regarding the COVID-19 outbreak has been fast moving and fluid as medical experts race to study this novel coronavirus while trying to fight the battle against it to save lives. Everyone in the medical community are all learning about this virus in real time. Initially, symptoms were based on what was known about other coronaviruses such as SARS and MERS.

After 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), first reported that fever, cough, and shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, may be some of the symptoms experienced if one becomes infected. The U.S. federal health organization has now added six new symptoms to its website. The additional symptoms are:

  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell

The CDC warns that the public should be aware of the following emergency warning signs and seek immediate medical attention once these symptoms develop:

  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Persistent pressure or pain in the chest.
  • Sudden confusion or “inability to arouse.”
  • Bluish lips or face.
