Happy New Year! January is National Healthy Weight Awareness Month

Welcome to 2020! You have made it through all the holiday festivities, and it is time to refocus on your health. Controlling your weight within healthy limits is a key factor to longevity. The beginning of the year is the perfect time to make lifestyle changes that will have an impact on the way we eat and how we exercise.

In an e-bulletin commissioned by the U.S. Public Health Service for National Healthy Weight Awareness Month, Scott Labrecque stressed the importance of physical fitness in maintaining a healthy weight, “Physical activity is important. People of all ages who are generally inactive can improve their health and well-being by becoming active with moderate intensity on a regular basis.”

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), explains that “The key to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight isn’t about short-term dietary changes. It’s about a lifestyle that includes healthy eating, regular physical activity, and balancing the number of calories you consume with the number of calories your body uses.”

You should consult your healthcare provider before beginning any new fitness program or for advice on any dietary changes.
