Today is International Youth Day 2019 “Transforming Education”

The theme for the 2019 International Youth Day is “Transforming Education.” According to the United Nations’ (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres, “Today, we celebrate the young people, youth-led organizations, Governments and others who are working to transform education and uplift young people everywhere.” The UN General Assembly first designated August 12 to be International Youth day in 1999 to raise awareness about global problems facing young people.

This year’s theme is rooted in the effort to make education more inclusive and accessible to all youth around the world and that the quality of education is equal regardless of race, class, or gender. The UN states that, “Inclusive and accessible education is crucial to achieving sustainable development and can play a role in prevention of conflict. Indeed, education is a ‘development multiplier’ as it plays a pivotal role in accelerating progress across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, be it poverty eradication, good health, gender equality, decent work and growth, reduced inequalities, action on climate or peaceful societies.”

The United Nations Population Fund also recognizes that one of the challenges facing young people worldwide is a “struggle to access basic sexual and reproductive health information and services. Without these tools, young people, in particular- find themselves grappling with poverty, early pregnancy, disease and other challenges.” You may walk in or schedule an appointment at any of our convenient Primary Medical Care Center community clinics, you may visit our website at www.primarymed.com, or call (305)751-1500 for our Miami-Dade clinic, or (954)289-0000 for our Broward clinic.
