Today is World Autoimmune & Autoinflammatory Arthritis Day: “Race to Fuel Awareness”

Since 2012, the annual World Autoimmune & Autoimmune Arthritis Day (#AiArthritisDay), has been observed to raise awareness worldwide, about diseases that are autoimmune in nature that affect the entire body and cause arthritic joint pain and inflammation. Most people are aware of the most commonly diagnosed arthritis that occurs due to aging, injury, or wear and tear. Some autoimmune diseases with full-body arthritic symptoms are rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and Sjogren’s syndrome.

According to the International Foundation for Autoimmune & Autoinflammatory Arthritis (IFAA), the sponsoring organization for this awareness campaign, “combined there are over 100 types of autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases, but only a couple dozen feature AiArthritis as a major component. By teaching people about AiArthritis, in addition to the symptoms associated with both autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, this will help expediate early detection, referrals, and diagnosis.”
