The ABCs of CBD The Amazing Health Benefits of Cannabis and CBD

Harvard Medical School explains that CBD stands for cannabidiol which is one of the most active ingredients of cannabis, also called marijuana. CBD is the main extract found in medical marijuana. However, it is not actually derived directly from the marijuana plant, but from its cousin, the hemp plant. Thus, CBD by itself does not produce the ‘high’ associated with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the active ingredient from the marijuana plant.

According to Healthline, both CBD and THC are natural compounds found in the cannabis plant and they both interact with our body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system plays a role in regulating various functions such as sleep, mood, appetite, memory, reproduction, and fertility. Even though both CBD and THC have the same molecular structure and the same medical benefits, CBD has no psychoactive effects, which is the reason why it is becoming legal in most places.
